Fruits and vegetables, which contain a lot of water, will help prevent the risk of developing urolithiasis, said nephrologist Ivan Porter. We are talking about watermelons, tomatoes and cucumbers.

“These fruits and vegetables contain natural citrate, which is a natural stone inhibitor and may help prevent kidney stones,” Porter told Reedus.

He also warned about foods that can provoke the appearance of stones: protein animal products and greens.

Urolithiasis is a disease in which sand and stones (calculi) form in the urinary system. This disease during exacerbations significantly reduces the quality of life: those who have experienced renal colic at least once will not confuse it with anything.

Renal colic is the most characteristic symptom of urolithiasis – it is a sudden onset of severe pain in the lower back. The pain may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, frequent urge to urinate and pain.

Signs of sand in the bladder

The most common sign of the appearance of sand in the bladder is burning when urination. This is due to trauma to the mucous membrane of the urethra with sharp edges of salt crystals.

Other manifestations of the disease include:

  • aching, pulling pain in the lower abdomen;
  • disturbance and difficulty in urination;
  • turbidity of urine;
  • cystitis (often develops due to constant traumatization of the walls bladder).

Causes of urolithiasis

Usually this is a genetic predisposition to kidney pathology and diseases accompanied by metabolic disorders.

Other causes of the disease:

  • Diseases associated with a violation of the outflow of urine.
  • Incorrectly selected diet.
  • Lack of fluid or excess of salt.
  • Diseases associated with metabolic disorders.
  • In residents of a hot climate the risk of sand and stones in all parts of the urinary tract increases.

Where does it hurt with urolithiasis?

The pain radiates to the lower abdomen, genital organs, perineum, or rectum. There is frequent and painful urination.

How to understand that there is sand? Signs:

  • impaired urination or dysuria;
  • frequent urges;
  • cutting pains in the lower back and groin radiating to the upper abdomen;
  • a feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder;
  • an admixture (streaks) of blood in the urine.
