Experts from the USA say that children in the age group from 5 to 11 years old do not need booster vaccines. Meanwhile, the local Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is determined to distribute booster injections to this group as cases continue to skyrocket in the US.
Infectious disease specialists at the University of California, San Francisco, said they do not have any strong evidence that children aged 5 to 11 need vaccines for COVID-19. Meanwhile, the US health authorities are just planning to start revaccinating this age group this week. This will prepare them for the start of the new school year. But scientists insist that there are no scientific studies that show that a booster injection reduces the risk of a child having an infection with symptoms.
Toddlers already have a very low risk of contracting a very severe form of coronavirus or dying from it, which is confirmed by numerous studies. So now, according to American scientists, it is completely unclear why the authorities started this campaign. But most importantly, booster vaccines have not been proven to have a benefit for children that outweighs the potential risk to their health. First of all, we are talking about myocarditis – one of the rare side effects of vaccination, which is a deadly inflammation of the heart. Most often, it is observed among boys.
Revaccination in this age group will slightly increase their protection against mild disease for a period of three to six months, according to some scientists. It cannot be ruled out that this action also has a certain corporate interest, since the vaccines of the American pharmaceutical giants, which receive considerable income for this, will be distributed. On the other hand, the authorities can refer to the increase in the incidence of coronavirus in the country, which for the first time since the end of February again exceeded 100,000 cases per day, on average, for a week.
