Surgeon-oncologist Ivan Karasev spoke about the influence of age on the rate of cancer development.
He recalled that the oncological process develops faster in young people than in the elderly. This is due, firstly, to the rate of metabolic processes in the body, and secondly, to the hormonal status – if it is high, then hormone-sensitive tumors grow much faster.
Hormone-dependent tumors include, for example, prostate cancer, some types of breast cancer, cancer of the body of the uterus and ovaries.
An oncologist gave an example when young pregnant women during pregnancy develop ovarian or breast cancer within a few months.
In addition, any hormonal disorders and failures can lead to the onset of the disease. As for genetics, this type of cancer occurs in 5-7 percent of cases.
There are several alarming symptoms, upon detection of which it is worth immediately checking with a doctor, Ivan Karasev said.
The most alarming signal is aching pain that occurs suddenly and does not go away for a long time. It is necessary to be on the lookout for discomfort when swallowing, nighttime pain in the stomach, pain in the stomach a couple of hours after eating, as they can be a sign of cancer of the gastrointestinal tract.
Also, a change in skin color may indicate the possible development of cancer. For example, an earthy complexion often appears with problems with iron on the background of a malignant neoplasm in the intestine, and an icteric hue of the epidermis can acquire with a tumor of the head of the pancreas.
— If you eat as before or even more, but the weight has noticeably gone down, then perhaps this is a symptom of paraneoplastic syndrome. In a simple way, this is a manifestation of cancer.
