Butchers: drugs to lower blood pressure and cholesterol can lead to leg cramps

legs
Alexander Myasnikov, a cardiologist and TV presenter, told what is the cause of leg cramps at night. This problem worries many people.

One of the reasons is a medicine to lower blood pressure.

According to Myasnikov, almost half of patients complain of cramping pains in the legs. People have muscle cramps, especially at night, sometimes there is an involuntary movement of the legs in a dream (“restless legs syndrome”).

— There is no single reason for this, many factors can play a role here — from flat feet to dehydration, — Myasnikov noted in his blog.

He listed the following factors:

  • Long sitting in an awkward position
  • Foot changes, such as flat feet
  • Water and electrolyte disturbances. Often this happens when taking diuretics.
  • Magnesium deficiency
  • Iron deficiency
  • Osteochondrosis
  • Rheumatological diseases, diabetes mellitus, lack of thyroid hormones
  • Drugs: diuretics, for asthma , hormonal birth control, some blood pressure medications, cholesterol-lowering medications, sleeping pills, antidepressants
  • Alcohol, nicotine, caffeine

For leg cramps can help:

  • pull the toe of the foot towards you (two or three times);
  • walk barefoot on the cold floor;
  • make a muscle massage;
  • take a warm bath;
  • li>
  • lightly prick the cramped muscle with a needle.
