Dietitian, nutritionist, therapist Alexandra Razarenova told what foods you can eat at night without harm to health and figure.

Doctors do not recommend eating at night – it can harm your health. During sleep, a person needs less energy than when awake. The stomach stops working when we fall asleep, so the metabolism in the body slows down significantly. The received unnecessary energy is deposited in fat reserves, which leads to obesity. High-carbohydrate foods and alcohol have more negative effects on the body than other foods, but the most unhealthy foods are spicy and fatty.

Many people have a need for late-night snacks. To avoid this, you need to reconsider your diet. As a rule, there is an imbalance in it. Not everyone can cope with hunger. According to the expert, there are products that will not harm health if they contain protein components and the right fats.

The doctor advises in this case to eat and drink:

  • Carrot

  • Avocado

  • Nuts

  • A little bit of language

  • Green tea

There is an opinion that you should not eat after six. In fact, it is better to focus on your own schedule: the last meal should be 2-4 hours before bedtime. During this time, the body will have time to digest food.

Late night snacks affect the quality of sleep. After a late meal, the level of glucose in the blood rises sharply, and then falls. The body takes such jumps as a threat, so cortisol is released. Because of this, many people suffer from insomnia.

Cortisol is a stress hormone produced by the adrenal glands. People with elevated cortisol often experience: high blood pressure, purple stretch marks, osteoporosis, and obesity. Hormone levels in the blood can be elevated due to stress, pregnancy, oral contraceptives, alcohol, and nicotine.
