Bowel cancer: a new symptom of the disease identified

Intestinal cancer is one of the most common types of oncology. Most people diagnosed with it are over 60 years old.

A recent study has identified a symptom of a disease that can put a person at risk of developing colon cancer.

Colon cancer is a general term for cancer that begins in the colon. Depending on where the oncological process begins, bowel cancer is sometimes called colorectal cancer, colon cancer, or rectal cancer.

Elevated levels of certain bacteria in the gut indicate a higher likelihood of colon tissue becoming cancerous, doctors say.

In a study published in the journal Cell Host & Microbe says gut bacteria may be an indicator of colon cancer risk.

The researchers followed 40 patients who had colonoscopies and had polyps. Doctors took a biopsy near the polyps and found that some bacteria were present at higher levels compared to patients who did not have polyps. The patients were between 50 and 75 years old.

There are three main symptoms of bowel cancer:

  • Blood in the stool
  • Change in stool (diarrhea, constipation, more voluminous stool)
  • Persistent pain in the lower abdomen.

Bloating or abdominal discomfort can also be a sign.

There are a number of factors that can increase the risk of bowel cancer, although the exact cause is unknown.

In addition to being over 60 years of age, risk factors include a diet high in red or processed meats and low in fiber, and being overweight. Smoking can increase the chances of developing bowel cancer, as can a sedentary lifestyle.

The risk of developing bowel cancer is increased as a result of another disease, such as Crohn's disease.

Doctors cannot say for sure why it develops cancer tumor. They identify several causes.

The main causes of cancer:

  • Poor diet
  • Obesity
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Exposure to radiation, industrial emissions< /li>
  • Heredity
  • Viruses
  • Depression
  • Weakened immunity
