Therapist Harlov: the habit of drinking tea with dessert undermines health

According to the general practitioner, gastroenterologist Nikita Kharlov, drinking tea accompanied by sweets is a dangerous habit for health, desserts should not be consumed on a regular basis.

“The habit of drinking tea with sweets can lead to the development of chronic infectious diseases,” the therapist and gastroenterologist Nikita Kharlov said in an interview.

The doctor explained that a variety of desserts have a specific effect on the state of the intestinal microbiota. Healthy gut bacteria need nutrients to grow and develop that sweets lack. On the other hand, they contain a lot of sugar, which actively feeds yeast and fungi. Thus, regular eating of sweets can provoke an imbalance in the microbial composition of the intestine – unhealthy microorganisms will begin to predominate in it. The consequence of this will be a weakening of the immune system, since it is in the intestines that immune cells are concentrated.

“If we “feed” the intestinal microflora with fast carbohydrates, over time this can lead to the development of a chronic infection that will slowly destroy the immune system,” said Nikita Kharlov.
The expert added that the consumption of refined carbohydrates contained in sweets also leads to an increase in insulin levels, which is closely related to the development of type 2 diabetes, obesity, since this hormone “does not release fat from the cells.”
