Therapist Efimova: Raspberry jam lovers are at risk of becoming addicted to sweets

Therapist Natalia Efimova advised to eat raspberry jam with caution.

Therapist Efimova warned in a conversation with RIA Novosti that lovers of raspberry jam are at risk of becoming addicted to sweets. In particular, such an addiction can develop in cases where the delicacy is abused or eaten regularly.

The doctor noted that people who have a sweet tooth usually experience pleasant emotions when they eat foods containing sugar.

“Consuming large amounts of sweet foods, including jam, can lead to a desire to consume them more often due to the pleasure effect they can cause,” said Natalia Efimova.
Why does addiction to sweets occur? One of the main reasons is that a person experiences stress or anxiety, which is “eaten away” with sugar. The fact is that the brain, having received an influx of glucose, intensively releases serotonin and other substances that provide pleasant emotions and relaxation, helping to cope with stress. Often, such a habit arises in childhood and is reinforced over time.

Another reason is poor nutrition. When a person's diet contains a variety of nutrients, intestinal bacteria are satisfied with this “fuel” and send signals to the brain that everything is okay with them. With a poor or unbalanced diet, intestinal bacteria lack nutrients, which can result in cravings for various foods, including sugar.
