Would you buy a can of cola if it has a picture of a rotting leg or teeth falling out? Experts warn that this kind of cigarette-style writing and pictures will help in the fight against childhood obesity.

The world is experiencing an unprecedented epidemic of childhood obesity, never before in the history of our planet have so many children been overweight. However, this applies not only to children, obesity already exists in 40% of Americans. It is obesity, and not just overweight, since overweight is in 60% of US residents. And something needs to be done about this, because obesity reduces life expectancy and requires huge government spending on the treatment of diseases associated with it.

Experts advise putting scary pictures on cigarettes themselves

Scientists believe that scary pictures and inscriptions should be applied to the main triggers of childhood obesity, like sweets and soda. In the study, parents saw about 1,000 images of sugary drinks with labels containing pictorial health warnings. They showed either the amount of sugar in each drink in teaspoons, or the physical consequences of excessive consumption of soda, such as tooth decay, weight gain and kidney disease.

Sweets need scary pictures from cigarette packs

The study found that if, after viewing such pictures, parents were given a choice in buying drinks for their children, then they were more likely to forego soda in favor of much more useful alternatives.
