Nutritionist Alexey Bereznikov told how to adjust your daily diet to prevent diabetes.

Doctor Bereznikov answered RIA Novosti what helps prevent diabetes in people's diets. First of all, he noted, there should not be a lot of sugar in the daily menu.

“First of all, it is necessary to eliminate or greatly limit the consumption of sugar, honey and products with added sugar – confectionery, sweets, etc.”
The nutritionist drew attention to the fact that diabetes prevention also requires strict control over natural products saturated with natural sugars. According to Bereznikov, one should not eat berries and fruits with a glycemic index higher than 35 on an empty stomach or in large quantities (these include kiwi, gooseberries, blueberries, blackberries, grapes, persimmons, bananas, melon and watermelon, pineapples, citrus fruits). The expert emphasized that products with a high glycemic index cause a rapid increase in blood glucose levels, as well as increased insulin production. With their constant use, insulin resistance can develop, the consequences of which can be very dangerous to health.

“Fruits and products with a high glycemic index lead to obesity and type 2 diabetes due to disruption of proper insulin secretion,” Alexey Bereznikov clarified.
He added that including foods with plant protein in the diet helps prevent diabetes. Such foods are digested slowly, which protects against sharp fluctuations in glucose levels. In addition, they contain many useful nutrients in the form of vitamins and minerals that strengthen health and improve well-being. Such foods include, in particular, legumes, cereals, nuts and seeds, soybeans, mushrooms.
