Candidate of Medical Sciences Elvira Baykova advised eating more foods with antioxidants, which help prevent dangerous disorders in the brain.
Doctor Baykova drew attention to the fact that proper nutrition effectively helps maintain brain health and improves the prevention of its age-related destruction. According to her, real superfoods for the brain are rich sources of antioxidants. These substances help protect the brain from oxidative stress, which can cause cell damage. It is this damage that causes Atzheimer's disease and dementia.
“To protect the main organ of the central nervous system, you need to eat more foods containing many antioxidants. Antioxidants found in vegetables and fruits help prevent damage by reducing inflammation and slowing down brain aging,” Elvira Baykova shared.
The doctor clarified: among the best sources of antioxidants for the brain are berries, such as strawberries and blueberries. In addition, spinach, broccoli, and citrus fruits should be included in the diet.
Another category of products that are beneficial for the brain are those containing polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids. This type of fat also has its own pronounced anti-inflammatory effect. Baykova noted that it is worth adding fatty fish, nuts or seeds to the menu – the fats they contain can slow down brain aging, improving the brain's protection from age-related neurodegeneration.
“With age, the brain becomes more vulnerable to damage. It accumulates harmful substances that can cause inflammation and cell damage. These processes accelerate the development of diseases such as dementia,” the specialist warned.
