Nutritionist Mikhail Ginzburg: red meat is an excellent source of vitamins B12 and D3, iron, and protein.

Doctor Ginzburg answered who needs red meat. In a conversation with Vechernyaya Moskva, he said that pork, beef, lamb, and horse meat should be present in the diet of people under 40. Red meat contains vitamins B12, D3, iron and high-quality protein.

“Red meat is one of the few sources of animal vitamin B12,” he emphasized in a commentary to Vechernyaya Moskva.
What is the value of vitamin B12? It is important for hematopoiesis, as it is involved in the synthesis of new blood cells, in particular, red blood cells with the formation of hemoglobin and methylcobalamin. With a deficiency of vitamin B12, problems with the peripheral nervous system arise. In addition, a lack of B12 affects the tendency to age-related cognitive impairment, dementia.

Ginsburg also drew attention to the fact that red meat, rich in iron, is especially useful in the diet of women who have preserved menstrual function.

Another reason not to give up red meat is the vitamin D3 it contains, which is necessary for a strong immune system. According to Mikhail Ginzburg, on the eve of the cold winter season, the importance of this substance for the body increases sharply, so reasonable consumption of meat can help maintain health during difficult times. Ginzburg reminded pork lovers that such meat, being fatter, contributes to excess weight gain in sedentary people.

The doctor also noted that it is unsafe for older people to get carried away with meat – as the body ages, its consumption is more likely to provoke dangerous consequences.

“In people over 40, meat consumption can cause the formation of toxic substances in the process of metabolism, which affects the intestinal microflora. Sometimes certain amino acids contained in meat turn into toxic derivatives in the human body,” the famous nutritionist warned.
