Nutritionist Solomatina spoke about the benefits of green bananas, noting that it is these fruits that are preferable to eat as the least sugary and sweet.
“The healthiest bananas are green ones, because they contain the least amount of sugar and they raise blood glucose levels less,” the expert said in a commentary for Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
Solomatina added that the riper and sweeter the banana, the greater the concentration of sugars and the glycemic index in it. After eating it, the blood glucose content increases very quickly, which requires the body to intensively produce insulin. To maintain health, such fluctuations in glucose and insulin should be avoided.
At the same time, almost all bananas contain trace elements such as potassium and magnesium. The specialist explained that as a source of these substances, bananas are beneficial for the heart and blood vessels. In particular, potassium prevents edema and helps strengthen the heart muscle, while magnesium causes relaxation of the vascular wall and lowers blood pressure.
In addition, bananas contain a lot of B vitamins necessary for the proper functioning of the brain.
