Psychiatrist and narcologist Anton Masyakin: non-alcoholic beer and wine are contraindicated for people undergoing treatment for alcoholism.

According to narcologist Masyakin, the use of soft drinks is unacceptable during the treatment of alcoholism. The specialist spoke about this in an interview with RIA Novosti. The doctor noted that for people with alcohol addiction, such drinks are dangerous as a possible trigger for a breakdown and a return to pathological drinking.

“Non-alcoholic beer and wine cannot be used in the treatment of alcoholism, since the appearance and taste can provoke a return of addiction,” said Anton Masyakin.
The narcologist added that the smell and taste of non-alcoholic drinks are similar to alcoholic ones – all this can remind a person of the sensations he experienced when abusing alcohol, and push him to drink again instead of restraint. The doctor emphasized that non-alcoholic drinks are not used as a means of helping to treat addiction. For a person with a history of addiction, non-alcoholic beer and wine as an alternative to alcohol are not acceptable.
