Therapist Mikhail Bratus: fish is literally an irreplaceable food product.
Doctor Bratus said in a commentary for RIA Novosti: it is practically impossible to completely replace fish with other products or supplements. In particular, he explained, the need to periodically eat fish is due to the fact that it is perhaps the best source of polyunsaturated fatty acids Omega-3 and Omega-6 for the human body. These fatty acids are the building material for brain cells and also help reduce “bad” cholesterol in the blood, which prevents the formation of vascular plaques.
“Along with the most important Omega-3 and Omega-6 for health, fish is rich in other microelements that are difficult to extract from other foods or from vitamin complexes,” the specialist said.
Bratus recalled that there is such a type of nutrition as the Mediterranean diet – it involves eating fish products at least 1-2 times a week. The doctor emphasized that a diet that complies with the rules of the Mediterranean diet is recommended for people with certain chronic diseases: these include cardiovascular pathologies, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, fatty liver disease (fatty hepatosis), and cancer.
In addition, Bratus added, fish is an indispensable product in the diet of children: its consumption most effectively stimulates the development of the child's central nervous system and strengthens mental health.
Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote about which products are best suited for improving the health of the intestinal microflora.
