Doctor Alexander Umnov shared his professional opinion on whether onions are effective in the fight against ARVI.

Onions are often called “grandmother's remedy” for colds and flu, but does this spicy vegetable really help cure the most common seasonal infections? The real ability of onions to fight ARVI was assessed by doctor Umnov, who stated that there is indeed a certain benefit from its use. According to him, onions have an immunostimulating effect.

“Onions contain many vitamins (A, C, PP, B1,2,9, E), which improve the functioning of organs and the mobilization of the immune system. It is able to neutralize a certain number of viruses and bacteria in tissues,” Alexander Umnov told Life.ru.
The doctor noted that onions are not a medicine and that you cannot defeat infections by taking them alone – their acidity is not enough to fight pathogens on its own. It is more correct to consider the product as an assistant in the prevention and treatment of mild acute respiratory viral infections, the doctor emphasized.

Umnov added that half an onion a day makes the prevention of respiratory infections more significant, and a whole onion eaten by a sick person increases his chances of a quick recovery.
