Gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh: the healthiest thing for breakfast is long-cooked porridge.

Gastroenterologist Kashukh stated: porridge can be a healthy dish for breakfast, but the nuances are important. Not all porridges should be consumed at the first meal – for example, their semi-finished versions, which require only brewing with boiling water, as well as porridges made from extremely crushed grains (semolina), are not suitable.

“Therefore, for breakfast you should give preference to long-cooked porridges . The cereals in them are purified to a lesser extent, so such cereals retain the maximum amount of nutrients,” the doctor shared with the Doctor Peter portal.
Gastroenterologist Kashukh named buckwheat among the three healthiest cereals for breakfast. Here is their list:

  • Buckwheat porridge;
  • Millet porridge;
  • Oatmeal.

The specialist clarified that their benefit is determined by the high content of protein and vitamins. Millet and buckwheat porridge contain iron, which is important for immunity and good functioning of the thyroid gland.

“Buckwheat supports the functioning of the cardiovascular system, liver and gastrointestinal tract,” added Kashuh.
At the same time, the doctor said, vegetable protein obtained from cereals does not contain all the essential amino acids and is not fully absorbed by the body. Therefore, you should eat porridge for breakfast accompanied by animal products – eggs, a piece of meat or fish, milk. It is also useful to add berries, vegetables, mushrooms or nuts, and vegetable oils to them – this makes porridge a more complete dish that provides the body with more nutrients.
