Doctor Elena Solomatina said that not all elderly people should drink tea, some should refuse it.

Dietitian Solomatina noted in an interview that tea has a lot of health benefits, and even hypertensive patients can use this drink in old age.

“Tea is very useful and even helps in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, in particular hypertension. It contains antioxidants,” Solomatina told Moscow 24.
In the absence of contraindications, an elderly person can afford up to four cups of the drink, the doctor said. At the same time, Solomatina warned that tea could be harmful to older people with pressure problems. If it repeatedly rises during the day, or rises suddenly and sharply, or a very significant increase in blood pressure is immediately observed, it is more correct to refuse tea.

The expert explained that tea is a source of caffeine, which it contains no less than coffee. Caffeine, being a natural stimulant, can provoke pressure fluctuations.

“If an elderly person has very high blood pressure, drinking tea should be avoided.”
Solomatina added that some people are hypersensitive to caffeine – its consumption affects their psycho-emotional state, sleep. If older people already have mood and sleep problems, they need to control their caffeine intake – in this case, it is better to exclude not only coffee, but also tea from the diet.

Tea can also harm older people with kidney problems .

Doctor Solomatina advised older people to consume complex carbohydrates

“Caffeine acts as a diuretic. Therefore, tea should not be drunk if there are problems with the kidneys, ”the doctor postulated.
The expert also warned that drinking tea can negatively affect well-being when there are diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
