Lack of sleep and problems with the thyroid gland can be the reasons for cravings for constant snacking during the day, said doctor Elena Solomatina.

Nutritionist and therapist Solomatina explained in an interview why people find it difficult to stay within the framework of three meals a day, and they snack every now and then. In particular, this can happen with an unbalanced diet, in which there is little protein and healthy fats, but a lot of carbohydrates.

“A person, for example, eats instant cereals, sandwiches with white bread, rolls, drinks sweet tea. At the same time, saturation quickly comes and quickly leaves, ”Solomatina shared with Moscow 24.
In addition, the doctor added, cravings for frequent snacks are caused by lack of sleep and problems with the thyroid gland. So, in the case of hypothyroidism (insufficient production of thyroid hormones), the body suffers from a lack of energy – the need for food, sweets arises as a way to help increase tone, cheer up.

As for sleep, doctor Solomatina explained: its lack makes the body experiences stress, the “medicine” for which various goodies become.

“With a lack of sleep, the stress hormone cortisol, instead of decreasing, remains for a long time and stimulates the search for high-energy food. A person starts to eat stress.
The dietitian also advised to remember that the body often makes it clear by feeling hungry that it needs water. Often, after drinking a glass of water, the desire to have a snack disappears.
