Doctor Rusanov: natural trans fats are not dangerous for the body

Endocrinologist Arseniy Rusanov spoke about products with natural and artificial trans fats.

In his interview, doctor Rusanov said that such types of fats as trans fats are not absorbed

“Due to their excessive use, the level of cholesterol in the blood increases, the risk of atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, and diabetes mellitus,” the doctor stated.
At the same time, speaking with AiF, Arseniy Rusanov explained: of the two types of trans fats, artificial and natural, the latter are not dangerous for the body (although they should be eaten in moderation, no more than 2 grams per day).

“Natural trans fats are found in dairy and meat products.”
As for artificial trans fats, the doctor advised them to avoid. The specialist clarified where harmful artificial trans fats are found:

  • refined oils
  • margarine
  • deep-fried dishes
  • frozen convenience foods
  • chips
  • chocolate and ice cream
  • confectionery.

Rusanov recommended choosing high-quality butter among fats, and giving preference to unrefined cold-pressed vegetable oils. He stated that it is especially dangerous to use unsuitable trans fats for those who have atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus.
