Doctor Natalia Panina: beer can harm the body, but there are also many myths about its harm.

Doctor Panina said that the unfounded assertion about the danger of the foamy drink for the body is the opinion that it contains cobalt, which negatively affects the heart. Such a “theory” in fact has no scientific evidence. The doctor also attributed to the realm of myths the idea that beer causes rapid breast growth in men.

“There are many rumors about the harm of beer, for example, that it contains estrogen, which can cause breast growth in men. In fact, this drink contains phytoestrogen due to the presence of hops, but its effect on the level of sex hormones and figure has not been proven,” Panina shared with Lenta.ru.
At the same time, the doctor stated that beer is often perceived as a harmless alcoholic drink, which is also wrong. The doctor specified that a dose of alcohol equivalent to 40 grams of ethyl alcohol (for men) is considered relatively safe for the human body. If you take a glass of beer with a volume of 330 ml, then the body will receive about 13 – 14 grams of ethyl alcohol. Thus, drinking so much beer that a toxic dose for the liver occurs is not difficult at all.

“Systematic abuse of beer over time can lead to alcoholic liver disease – fatty hepatosis, as well as hepatitis, fibrosis and even cirrhosis,” the expert warned.
Panina added that the pancreas is very sensitive to alcohol, so beer lovers expose themselves to a very real risk of pancreatitis. In addition, addiction to it contributes to obesity, and the yeast present in beer “helps” to develop gout.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote about how improper drinking of mineral water harms the body.
