Nutritionist Mariyat Mukhina: older people should avoid overly salty and fatty cheeses in their diet.

Doctor Mukhina warned in an interview with Moscow 24 that as you get older, you need to more carefully monitor the composition of your food. This also applies to cheese – not every cheese should be consumed by older people

“Not every type of cheese is suitable for older people. The most unhealthy cheeses for the elderly are salty ones. For example, feta cheese, feta,” shared her opinion Mariyat Mukhina.
The doctor of medical sciences stated that excessively salty cheeses can retain fluid and provoke edema, which is completely undesirable if you already have high blood pressure or kidney problems.

The nutritionist added that older people also need to take into account the fat content of the product. They should not eat cheeses with a fat content of 50 percent or more.

“Many elderly people have high cholesterol. In order not to aggravate the problem, they should not eat cheeses with a fat content of 40-50 percent – it is better to choose light 20 percent types,” the expert advised.
According to Mukhina, elderly women should include tofu in their diet. This product is low in fat, but gives their body a lot of protein and phytoestrogens, which help prevent osteoporosis.
