Doctor Lazurenko noted that added sugar can accelerate the aging of the body even with a balanced diet. The specialist reported that a recent study by scientists from the University of California showed that addiction to the consumption of prepared foods with added sugar increases the risk of premature aging. According to Lazurenko, eating large amounts of added sugar provokes glycation – a process in which sugar molecules combine with proteins and fats. The consequence of this process is the formation of glycation products that accumulate in tissues and contribute to the toxic effect on cells. As a result, oxidative stress occurs, activating inflammation, significantly accelerating the aging and death of body cells.

“It is glycation that causes the development of “diseases of civilization” associated with age: obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, including atherosclerosis,” Lazurenko told the 360 ​​TV channel.
To protect against premature aging, the doctor recommended consuming as few simple carbohydrates and sugar as possible. The diet should include fiber, insoluble fiber, bran, whole grains and foods with antioxidants, the expert is convinced.
