Doctor Kharlov: Improperly consumed green tea is as dangerous for the liver as alcohol

According to gastroenterologist Nikita Kharlov, an overzealous passion for green tea can have a detrimental effect on the liver.

Doctor Kharlov warned Russians that improperly consumed green tea is no less dangerous to the liver than alcohol. This should be remembered also by those people who, in their desire to lead a healthy lifestyle, resort to excessive measures. Green tea is commonly cited as one of the healthiest beverages as a rich source of powerful antioxidants. But if you drink it without observing restrictions, you can harm your body and put your liver at risk, the expert stated.

Kharlov noted that green tea is indeed high in antioxidants, but too much of it can lead to an overdose of them – this is fraught with the development of hepatitis.

In addition, tea contains substances that interfere with the absorption of B vitamins. Its unlimited intake with an existing deficiency of these substances can seriously harm the liver. Such harm is quite comparable to the damage caused by alcohol, emphasized Nikita Kharlov.

In addition, the doctor added, improperly consumed green tea can contribute to the development of fatty liver, preventing it from receiving the nutrients it needs. This risk becomes especially high for people with kidney problems, reports Perviy Zhenskiy.
