Doctor Agapkin: the harm of lard and other animal fats after a heart attack or stroke is a myth

Rehabilitation doctor Sergei Agapkin: the opinion about the absolute harm of fat for “heart patients” and “stroke patients” is a common misconception.

Quite often you can hear that people who have had a heart attack or stroke are categorically contraindicated in all fatty foods, and especially harmful for them are animal fats in the form of meat (with fat), lard or eggs. Doctor Agapkin commented on this opinion during the filming of the program “About the most important thing.” He stated that such a statement is incorrect.

According to Sergei Agapkin, the harm of lard and other animal fats after a heart attack or stroke is a myth.

“Previously, there was an opinion that such patients should completely exclude all animal fats from their diet. In fact, of course, you can eat them,” the doctor shared.
The doctor explained that the ban on fatty foods of animal origin was caused by concerns that they contribute to increased cholesterol levels. But subsequently, thanks to a number of studies, it was found that in reality animal fats have virtually no effect on cholesterol levels in the body if a person does not abuse them. Moreover, their moderate consumption is useful for the healthy functioning of the gallbladder, normal production of sex hormones, maintaining energy, healthy skin and hair, healthy lungs and proper absorption of many important vitamins.
