Constant hunger may indicate a distended stomach and illness

Persistent hunger can be a symptom of a distended stomach or internal diseases, including diabetes and thyroid pathology.

In an interview with general practitioner Polina Yermolova the causes of constant hunger were listed. One of them is the corruption of the stomach. The specialist noted that the human stomach has an impressive ability to stretch – its capacity can increase six to eight times. But the habit of eating large portions can lead to the fact that the organ becomes constantly stretched, and this will affect the feeling of hunger – it can occur soon after eating.

“To return the stomach to its previous size, you must not overeat. It is best to eat often – five to six times a day in small portions, ”Yermolova shared with Moscow 24.
In addition, an abnormal feeling of hunger may be due to the fact that the body is experiencing a lack of nutrients. This may be due to an unbalanced diet or diseases that prevent the normal absorption of substances from food. In particular, due to type 2 diabetes, in which the cells do not receive glucose due to a violation.

“In diabetes, with a lack of insulin or resistance of cells to this hormone, there is a difficulty in the penetration of glucose into cells. Lack of glucose has a stimulating effect on the food center. A constant desire to eat often occurs in diabetics, ”explained Polina Ermolova
The doctor added that with increased hunger in a person, one can also suspect hyperthyroidism, a disorder characterized by increased activity of the thyroid gland and excessive production of its hormones. In addition to the “brutal appetite” with hyperthyroidism, people also suffer from fatigue, hair loss, irritability.
