Dietitian Mariyat Mukhina: persimmon is useful for strengthening the cardiovascular system of older people.

One of the most famous autumn fruits – persimmon – has significant potential benefits, including for the elderly (Dr. Mukhina told Moscow 24). In particular, the doctor recommended persimmon as a means of preventing arrhythmia.

“Persimmon contains a lot of potassium, which is necessary for the elderly for the health of the cardiovascular system. It lowers blood pressure, improves heart function and eliminates arrhythmia,” the specialist explained.
The doctor of medical sciences added that the orange color of persimmon fruits reflects their saturation with beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A. This antioxidant has a pronounced positive effect on the condition of the visual organs, preventing the occurrence of age-related problems such as cataracts and retinal dystrophy, fraught with deterioration of vision and blindness.

In addition, persimmon is saturated with vitamin C, which provides support to the immune system. Its consumption, therefore, is a preventative measure against colds and other viral infections that spread in the fall.

“Persimmon is also known as a product with a high iodine content, which is important for the normal functioning of the thyroid gland,” recalled Maryat Mukhina.
The doctor warned: persimmon is not the easiest product to digest, it contains fibers that are difficult for the digestive tract. Given this, you should not eat more than two fruits a day (and they should not be eaten one after the other).

What you should also remember: persimmon is contraindicated in acute gastritis, duodenal ulcer, nonspecific ulcerative colitis and other chronic gastrointestinal diseases.
