Doctor of Medical Sciences Vladimir Popov listed the most dangerous products for the brain.

Doctor Popov warned Russians that certain products, if consumed frequently or regularly, significantly increase the risk of stroke. In particular, the expert classified sources of hidden salt and hidden sugar, as well as products high in saturated fats, as products that lead to stroke. The doctor explained that excessive consumption of salt increases blood pressure, and the constant presence of sugar and saturated fats in the diet provokes the development of chronic inflammation and atherosclerosis, which damages vascular tissue.

“It is better to limit the amount of sweet carbonated drinks, cakes, pastries, ready-made desserts, mayonnaise, ketchup, various salad dressings, as well as white bread and packaged juices in the diet. Frequent consumption of these products significantly increases the risk of stroke,” Vladimir Popov stated in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The expert also classified processed foods and fast food in the form of chips, crackers, ready-made breakfasts, French fries, hamburgers, nuggets, frozen pizza, and canned goods as products that harm the brain and lead to stroke. Products in this category are dangerous because they contain too many unwanted and artificial components, including the same salt and sugar, trans fats, emulsifiers, thickeners, and artificial flavors.

What should you eat to maintain healthy brain function?According to Popov, the best type of diet is a diet similar to the Mediterranean diet: it contains a lot of vegetables, fruits, fish, seafood, legumes, dairy products, a minimum of red meat, olive oil, nuts. The expert noted that such a diet is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, soluble fiber, water-soluble polysaccharides – this helps to normalize the level of glucose and cholesterol in the blood, which has the best effect on the condition of blood vessels. Their health is the basis for the good functioning of the heart and brain.
