Therapist Spakhov named another dangerous property of salt, doctor Andreeva listed foods that contain hidden salt

Therapist and gastroenterologist Konstantin Spakhov emphasized that the use of salt, the most common spice, is associated with increased risk of developing stomach cancer.

In his comment for aif.ru he noted that lovers of salty foods are almost twice as likely to be at risk as others. However, according to him, not everyone knows about this danger.

Dr. Spakhov emphasized that the use of salt not only increases the likelihood of developing hypertension, but also can lead to the formation of kidney stones, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis and cataracts. He urged people to stop adding salt to their food, arguing that this is an important step for their own health.

The specialist claims that it is not difficult to stop adding salt to food. To do this, just remove the salt shaker from the table and give yourself three weeks. During this time, the body will get used to less salty food, the doctor assured.

Therapist Irina Andreeva explained especially for MedicForum why even refusing to add salt may not save from kidney stones and hypertension.

“Hidden salt is salt that is added to foods during production or preparation and is not always noticeable at first glance. This is one of the main sources of salt intake and can lead to exceeding recommended intake levels and increasing the risk of developing various diseases.” , says Andreeva.
The main sources of hidden salt include:

Ready foods

Canned foods, processed foods, snack foods, powdered soups, salted nuts and chips often contain high levels of salt to enhance flavor and extend shelf life.

Convenience foods

“Frozen meals, pizza, Sandwiches, breakfast cereals, and other processed foods may also contain significant amounts of hidden salt.”

Prepared sauces and condiments

Ketchup, soy sauce, salad dressings, and other prepared condiments contain high levels of salt for maintaining flavor and texture.

“To reduce hidden salt intake, it is important to read food package labels carefully, choose natural and non-fried options, and prepare home-cooked foods with minimal salt or use salt substitutes such as herbs and spices.”
