There is an opinion that going without a hat makes a person prone to meningitis. Immunologist Parviz Avizov commented on his real risk.

Doctor Avizov called the idea that meningitis can be “earned” by walking without a hat a myth. According to the DOS, the physician said that inflammation of the meninges, characteristic of meningitis, is associated with a meningococcal infection. The development of this disease is due to the weakening of the immune system: its resources are not enough to repel the attack of the infection.

“Cold does not cause meningitis, this is a myth. If it's minus 20 outside, you put on a hat because it's just cold. It will not protect against infection,” the doctor said.
Parviz Avizov noted that vaccination is an effective way to support the protection of immunity from a dangerous infection.
Earlier, infectious disease specialist Vladislav Zhemchugov stated in an interview that meningitis can develop as a complication of influenza. Its characteristic symptom is a severe headache, as well as the inability to raise the right leg in a supine position. Other signs are pain in the eyes, a cold-like cough, runny nose.
