Cardiologist Nikolay Shlevkov: atrial fibrillation is a common cause of strokes and heart failure.
Cardiologist Shlevkov warned Russians that if atrial fibrillation (also known as atrial fibrillation) occurs, it is imperative to see a doctor, undergo the necessary examination and begin the therapy recommended by the doctor. This disorder in the functioning of the heart is one of the most dangerous cardiovascular pathologies – its consequences are life-threatening: these primarily include stroke and heart failure.
“Millions of Russians have this disease and often don’t even know about it. Atrial fibrillation increases the risk of heart failure by three times, the risk of stroke by five times, doubling mortality from cardiovascular causes,” Nikolai Shlevkov told the Lenta.ru portal.
The cardiologist explained how to recognize dangerous atrial fibrillation. Here are its most common manifestations:
- A feeling of fluttering in the chest;
- Sudden rapid heartbeat (can occur at rest, at night);
- Irregular heart rhythm (the heart beats either slowly or quickly);
- Shortness of breath;
- Weakness, fatigue;
- Sweating;
- Chest pressure.
Shlevkov drew attention to the fact that sometimes atrial fibrillation is asymptomatic. Given this, it is important to undergo medical examinations and regularly check the heart as part of preventive examinations, he emphasized. The doctor added that atrial fibrillation is often detected in men of working age.
Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote about the dangers of bradycardia – a slow heartbeat.
