Sharp pain in the chest when inhaling indicates a life-threatening blood clot

Sharp chest pain on inspiration indicates a life-threatening blood clot

If you experience “sharp” chest pain that worsens on inspiration, this may signal a blood clot, and you you should immediately consult a doctor.

Some blood clotting is necessary for the body because it prevents excessive bleeding when cut. Clots form when blood clots become gel-like. However, clots that do not dissolve naturally can be dangerous.

“One of the signs that you may have a blood clot is severe chest pain, which may worsen when you breathe in. Blood clots can be dangerous for of life if they are not treated quickly,” says Oleg Varfolomeev, a cardiologist, especially for MedikForum.
Other common symptoms of blood clots include:

  • Pulsating or cramping pain, swelling, redness, and fever in the leg or arm
  • Sudden shortness of breath< /li>
  • Cough or cough up blood

Another dangerous condition that can occur with blood clots is deep vein thrombosis (DVT). This happens when you have a blood clot in a vein – usually in your leg.

What if it's not your heart? Acute chest pain can signal problems with blood vessels

DVT is especially worrisome because these clots in your veins can then break off and travel through the bloodstream to the lungs, leading to a pulmonary embolism.

You are more vulnerable to blood clots if you:< ul class="list-marked">
