Salt substitutes will protect a person from a stroke

Salt substitutes will protect a person from a stroke
Removing salt in favor of its alternatives significantly reduces the risk of strokes and heart disease. This conclusion was made by scientists from the University of Newcastle.

Replacing salt with salt alternatives lowers blood pressure and protects against deadly heart problems. This reduces the likelihood of a stroke and death in general from any cause, as the study showed. High salt intake, which leads to an increase in sodium levels in the body, is a well-known cause of high blood pressure and poor cardiovascular health. A salty diet is one of the major risk factors for premature death.

However, the study authors have now proven that switching to salt substitutes, which replace a volume of sodium chloride with potassium chloride, reduces these health risks. The authors of the study collected the results of 21 clinical trials involving nearly 32,000 people evaluating the effect of salt substitutes on blood pressure.

Salt substitutes help protect against strokes

It has been proven that these substitutes reduce blood pressure in all participants of the experiment, regardless of age, place of residence, gender, weight and other factors affecting blood pressure . No side effects have been found from increased potassium chloride intake. Switching to salt substitutes reduced the likelihood of heart attacks, strokes and premature death from any cause by 11%, and the likelihood of cardiovascular disease by 13%.
