Doctor Elena Polikanova warned Russians about the dangers of gas stoves if used improperly.
Gas stoves are often used to heat homes. Doctor Polikanova noted that this method of keeping apartments warm can cause serious harm to the health of people living there.
“To prevent the heat from escaping, the owners close the windows tightly, seal the ventilation holes, eliminate any draft, not realizing that they are thereby putting their lives in danger,” the specialist noted.
The doctor explained that in such conditions, carbon monoxide is formed, which may not be felt by the human sense of smell. When it accumulates, the risk of death increases, the doctor warned.
“By isolating oneself from even a tiny influx of fresh air, a person risks “carbon monoxide poisoning.” Without adequate medical care, carbon monoxide poisoning can be fatal,” the doctor said.
In addition, in the case of irrational use of gas stoves, the likelihood of respiratory diseases, including bronchial asthma, increases. Polikanova noted that combustion products have an irritating effect on the respiratory tract, Prime reported.
What dangerous substances can gas stoves emit? For example, nitrogen dioxide. The more it accumulates in the air, the more significant the risk of asthma in childhood. For adult asthmatics, being in a room with a working gas stove is fraught with an aggravation of negative symptoms.
In addition, gas stoves can be a source of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can lead to the development of cancer.
Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that methane, which is dangerous to health, can leak in apartments with gas stoves – immunologist Nadezhda Logina spoke about this in more detail.
