Doctor Alexander Myasnikov: sugar substitutes are less caloric than natural sugar, but they can seriously harm the body.

Doctor Myasnikov answered whether sugar substitutes can lead to type 2 diabetes. The famous Russian doctor said: yes, such substitutes increase the risk of developing this dangerous disease.

“These substances are now in the so-called red zone. Sugar substitutes are harmful to the body, although they are less caloric than natural sugar. For example, they can cause type 2 diabetes,” noted Dr. Myasnikov.
He said that French scientists conducted a study, the results of which were published in the journal Plos Medicine. Having studied data on the health and habits of 103 thousand people, experts found that people who consumed a lot of artificial sweeteners (especially aspartame and acesulfame potassium) had an increased risk of dangerous diseases, including cancer. Scientists associate this effect of sugar substitutes with their negative impact on intestinal microflora.
