Cardiologist Alina Sharina: for good blood vessel condition after 50, it is important to control bad habits.

Cardiologist Sharina shared in a conversation with Vechernyaya Moskva ways to strengthen blood vessels after 50. This is important for the prevention of such dangerous conditions as stroke, heart attack or dementia – the risk of these pathologies increases significantly at this age.

One of the ways to prevent a critical deterioration in vascular health after 50 years is to give up bad habits – smoking and alcohol abuse, the expert emphasized. The cardiologist also advised carefully monitoring the amount of salt consumed.

“The norm for salt consumption is 5 grams per day, while the average Russian salt consumption rate is more than 11 grams. High doses of salt significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular pathology,” the doctor stated.
In addition, the specialist urged to avoid constant consumption of saturated fats and to give up trans fats. The diet after 50 years should contain more unsaturated fats in the form of fish, vegetable oils, nuts and seeds.

Sharina drew attention to the fact that one of the best ways to strengthen blood vessels is physical activity – mainly in the form of aerobic exercise (when breathing becomes more frequent). Such exercise improves blood circulation and strengthens the vascular wall, which significantly reduces the risk of myocardial infarction.

“Try to do aerobic exercise, such as walking, swimming or cycling. Adults of any age are recommended to do moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity for at least 150-300 minutes a week,” the cardiologist clarified.
Sharina added that with age, blood vessels become more vulnerable to stress. To protect them, you should increase your stress resistance – this is helped, among other things, by a well-established sleep schedule.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that it is important for women over 50 to monitor their calcium levels.
