Neurosurgeon Shipilin: glioblastoma of the brain occurs without any pattern

poor health
Neurosurgeon Sergei Shipilin said that a malignant brain tumor known as glioblastoma can occur in almost anyone.

Neurosurgeon Shipilin warned that glioblastoma of the brain occurs outside of any pattern. This is one of the few types of cancer where lifestyle factors do not affect the development of the tumor.

“A malignant brain tumor can appear in any person at any age without any apparent reason. There are different theories of its origin, but there is no particular connection to a genetic, hereditary or any predisposing factor,” he said in a comment for NEWS.ru.
The doctor added that it is impossible to prevent glioblastoma. The specialist rejected the idea of performing CT of the brain for preventive purposes. Shipilin noted that CT does not belong to this type of diagnostics – there is no need to treat this procedure as fluorography, it is performed only when symptoms of pathology appear.

Glioblastoma is a particularly aggressive type of cancer, and there is no truly effective medicine to combat it. One of the main difficulties in treating glioblastoma is the need to overcome the blood-brain barrier, which protects the brain from the effects of any drugs. In addition, the cells of this tumor are very changeable, they constantly find ways to invade healthy parts of the brain, so even very experienced surgeons are unable to remove the tumor completely. In addition, glioblastoma has a specific effect on the human immune system, forcing it to ignore tumor components.

Symptoms of a brain tumor. Their manifestation depends on which part of the brain the tumor occurs in. Problems with breathing, blood pressure, swallowing, hearing, memory and learning, and recognizing objects and faces may occur.

Other symptoms of a brain tumor include:

  • Headaches;
  • Visual disturbances, including visual hallucinations;
  • Seizures;
  • Feeling of nausea;
  • Drowsiness;
  • Mental or behavioral changes;
  • Progressive weakness or paralysis of one side of the body.
