Neurologist Demyanovskaya: loneliness is associated with susceptibility to dangerous diseases

loneliness
Loneliness is associated with the risk of dangerous diseases due to weakened immunity, warned neurologist Ekaterina Demyanovskaya.

Neurologist Demyanovskaya spoke about how living alone affects people's health and life expectancy. In an interview with Izvestia, the doctor noted that loneliness may be an unobvious cause of many diseases.

Citing research data, Demyanovskaya reported that single people often suffer from weakened immunity. The number of immune cells in their body decreases and there are more inflammatory components – this reduces its protective function and makes it more vulnerable to bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens. Thus, loneliness is associated with people's susceptibility to dangerous diseases.

There are also more hypertensive people among single people.

The neurologist added that when a person lives alone, and in a secluded way, he is at greater risk of losing his mental health – social isolation has a detrimental effect on the brain.

“It has been scientifically proven that people who do not communicate with friends and relatives, children, grandchildren, and are not married are almost twice as likely to be diagnosed with dementia and other cognitive impairments.”
Demyanovskaya noted that when alone, people are exposed to more severe stress, as they do not have emotional support. This exacerbates their tendency to dangerous changes in their health, as well as to harmful and destructive habits.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote about the age at which people are most often diagnosed with fatal diseases.
