Nephrologist Danila Pyrikov spoke about available measures to prevent kidney stones.

Nephrologist Pyrikov told Gazeta.Ru that drinking water is one of the key ways to help avoid kidney stones.

“Methods for preventing urolithiasis depend on the composition of the stones, but there are general rules. First, you need an adequate drinking regimen, since a lack of fluid leads to an increase in the concentration of salts in the urine, the formation of crystals, and then stones,” the doctor said.
Speaking about how much water you need to drink, Pyrikov advised focusing on the color of the urine you excrete – it should be light (slightly yellowish) or transparent.

“It is important to drink two to three liters of water a day,” he said.
The nephrologist added that other measures to protect the kidneys from developing stones include controlling the amount of salt and meat (especially red) consumed, as well as protein – you should not consume more than 1.0-1.3 grams per kilogram of weight (per day). In addition, you need to actively eat vegetables and fruits, and not allow excess weight to appear. It is also important to avoid urinary tract infections and gout – a disease that often occurs due to neglect of healthy eating rules.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote about why gout victims in Russia are most often quite young men.
