The assertion that female alcoholism is incurable is a misconception, the specialist stated.

Narcologist Ruslan Isaev considered the statement about the incurability of female alcoholism to be a myth, he shared this opinion in a conversation with Lenta.ru. The specialist noted that alcohol consumption threatens women with more dangerous consequences compared to men. The female body has fewer enzymes that break down alcohol. In addition, the female body contains more water and dissolves alcohol more effectively.

Treatment of alcoholism in women can be more complicated and take more time than in men, the expert emphasized.

Nevertheless, Isaev added, female alcoholism is not incurable, the other opinion is a misconception. He drew attention to the fact that dividing alcohol addiction into “female” and “male” is generally incorrect – this is one problem, not different.

“The treatment algorithm for alcoholism will be the same, regardless of gender,” the specialist postulated.
Isaev added that treatment for alcoholism in women may take longer because they come to doctors with a very serious disorder. Women hide the dangerous habit that has arisen longer, and it gets worse, this also happens due to stronger social pressure.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that narcologist Dmitry Vashkin reported that the ability of anti-alcoholism drugs to treat addiction is not as significant as many people think.
