Dermatologist Nadezhda Nabatnikova: changes in the skin on the elbows may indicate the development of certain pathologies.

Dermatologist Nabatnikova advised Russians to monitor the skin on their elbows – its condition is a kind of barometer for health. According to the specialist, various changes can occur with it, including stretching, darkening or redness, deformation of the structure – all this can be a consequence of processes caused by various diseases.

In particular, deterioration of the skin on the elbows may indicate diabetes, the expert clarified.

“With diabetes and a predisposition to it, the skin begins to darken or turn gray in the area of the elbow bend, and the folds in this place can become more pronounced,” Nabatnikova shared with Doctor 24.
Rough elbows, the dermatologist added, can be a sign of vitamin deficiency (specifically, A and E). To replenish their levels in the body, the doctor advised including foods such as cod liver, fatty fish, and beef in the diet.

Nabatnikova also drew attention to the fact that the condition of the skin on the elbows can indicate the presence of psoriasis.

“With psoriasis, red-pink rashes with scales appear on this part of the hands, which can merge and create an itchy crust,” the dermatologist warned.
