Scientists representing the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis concluded that some changes in the state of the body can be early precursors of bowel cancer – these “red flags” appear months or even years before the onset of the disease. The conclusion of the specialists was published by the journal of the National Cancer Institute.
It is reported that the researchers analyzed the medical data of five thousand patients. Of particular interest to scientists were subjects who were diagnosed with bowel cancer before the age of 50 (such an onset of the disease is considered atypically early). The authors of the work found that these patients had common signs for some time before the discovery of cancer. Scientists admit that these signs may be early precursors of bowel cancer in general.

“Abdominal pain, bleeding in the intestine, diarrhea; iron-deficiency anemia – these symptoms can occur from three months to two years before the diagnosis is made.
It has also been calculated that the more symptoms from this list occur in a middle-aged person, the greater their risk of developing colorectal cancer becomes – not only in old age, but also at the age of about 50.

Lead researcher of the project, M.D. Yin Cao, noted that the most alarming signals of the body are anemia and rectal bleeding. A person with these signs needs to see a doctor as soon as possible, undergo the necessary examination.
