Endocrinologist Gureeva: never eat sweets and starchy foods before bedtime - they greatly increase sugar and insulin

Eating certain foods before bedtime can seriously affect blood sugar levels, a nutritionist warns.< /b>

Diabetes is a serious condition that can have serious long-term consequences. Like many medical conditions, the type of food you eat can affect diabetes by affecting blood sugar levels.

It is widely known that there are two forms of the disease – type 1 and type 2. Both of them lead to the fact that the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood becomes too high.

The doctor advised not to eat certain foods before bed.

“Do not eat sweet or starchy foods before bed. Your blood sugar drops at night, well before your next meal. Chances are your adrenal glands (the glands that help regulate your metabolism) will kick in, causing restless sleep or waking up at 3am with anxiety. Eat high-quality protein and low-sugar and starch fats for breakfast,” says endocrinologist Antonina Gureeva especially for MedikForum.

Sugar blood test

Find your carbohydrate tolerance and stick to it : if you feel sleepy or craving sweet things after eating, you have eaten too many carbohydrates, the doctor advises.

How sugar affects the quality of sleep

Eat a well-balanced diet consisting mainly of vegetables and quality proteins (eggs, fish, meat, tofu), lots of fiber and fats.

“Never eat sugary or high carbohydrate foods without fiber, fat or protein. These additional factors slow down the rate of absorption of glucose into the bloodstream and help prevent insulin surges.
