Although alcohol consumption is already associated with numerous diseases, from cancer to cirrhosis of the liver, researchers have found even more evidence of its danger .

Scientists have linked alcohol consumption with gout and cataracts. Other disorders recently associated with alcohol use include fractures and circulatory disorders.

“The study demonstrates that alcohol is associated with a much wider range of diseases than previously thought,” says family doctor Tatyana Zakharova, commenting on the study specifically for MedicForum.

They analyzed a Chinese database containing medical information on more than 512,000 adults, including their drinking habits.
Among men, alcohol consumption was significantly associated with a higher risk of 60 diseases. One-third of the men in the research project drank alcohol regularly (at least once a week), while the figure for women was only two percent.

As a result, women were used as a control group to confirm that the increased risk of disease in men was due to alcohol consumption.
