Doctor Savelyeva: the cause of weakness may be hypothyroidism or iron deficiency anemia

According to therapist Olesya Savelyeva, an increased feeling of weakness can occur as a symptom of the disease.

The cause of weakness may be hypothyroidism or iron deficiency anemia – about this doctor Savelyev informed in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru.

“Constant weakness and a feeling of fatigue can indicate a number of diseases,” the specialist stated.
Saying that the cause of weakness could be iron deficiency anemia, the doctor explained: this condition is caused by a decrease in hemoglobin levels. Symptoms such as poor appetite, pallor, and dizziness (for example, when standing up) may also occur. The appearance of the listed symptoms is a serious reason to consult a doctor and get examined.

In addition, the cause of weakness may be hypothyroidism, which means insufficiency of the thyroid gland, reduced production of its hormones. It is the thyroid gland that has a key influence on a person’s energy; its insufficient activity impairs metabolism and lowers tone.

“Symptoms of hypothyroidism can be constant fatigue, drowsiness, apathy, weakness, slowing down of thought processes,” said doctor Savelyeva.
Feelings of fatigue and weakness are also observed with depression, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, kidney failure, autoimmune diseases, infections, cancer. In any case, a prolonged state of apathy, lethargy and weakness requires contact with specialists.

Earlier, the portal wrote that neurologist Galina Chudinskaya named the main signs of a stroke.
