According to infectious disease doctor Andrei Pozdnyakov, when contracting the Hong Kong flu, “intestinal” symptoms may occur.

Doctor Pozdnyakov informed about the similarity of the Hong Kong flu to an intestinal infection due to symptoms reminiscent of indigestion. This type of flu typically begins with an illness similar to food poisoning.

“The Hong Kong flu, strain H3N2, is characterized by intestinal manifestations. That is, the disease can begin with fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain and sometimes vomiting,” the doctor explained to Ura.ru.
Pozdnyakov added that runny nose and cough in the case of Hong Kong flu also occur, but later, after a day or two. The doctor drew attention to the fact that the disease can take a very severe form with the occurrence of a very high temperature and other extremely unfavorable signs of intoxication of the body. In addition, there may be consequences in the form of inflammatory processes activating in various organs, bacterial complications, and pneumonia.

According to an infectious disease specialist, an epidemic of such influenza in Russia is quite likely this season. He considers vaccination to be the most effective way to protect against infection.
