Gastroenterologist Natalya Panina: using soda for heartburn can increase acid secretion.

Doctor Panina advised Russians not to treat heartburn by taking soda, saying that such “treatment” only worsens the problem in the long term.

“Taking soda is not a solution. Moreover, it can provoke a worsening of the situation, since when it comes into contact with hydrochloric acid in the stomach, a large amount of carbon dioxide is formed. This, in turn, leads to increased acid secretion, provokes its reflux into the esophagus, damage to the gastric mucosa, increased gas formation and belching,” the doctor warned in a comment for Gazeta.Ru.
Panina noted that one-time and situationally caused heartburn can be “quenched” by drugs from the antacid group. According to the doctor, taking them minimizes the risk of serious side effects. But if heartburn begins to occur periodically, you need to see a doctor. In this case, it is important to make sure that its cause is not too dangerous disorders.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that long-term heartburn can indicate a precancerous condition, doctor Alexander Myasnikov spoke about this in more detail.
