Doctor Marilova: Home furnishings can be breeding grounds for ticks

skin diseases
Pillows and carpets can be a habitat for mites that threaten human health, warned allergist Maria Marilova.

Doctor Marilova said that home furnishings can be a breeding ground for mites.

“Carpets, pillows and mattresses can be home to dust mites, scabies mites, and also Demodex mites, which can pose a threat to humans,” the doctor shared with Gazeta.Ru.
Dust mites.According to Marilova, the excrement and remains of these mites are a strong allergen – many people react to them with sneezing, itching, watery eyes, nasal congestion, and asthma symptoms. What is noteworthy is that the exacerbation of allergic reactions caused by dust mites often occurs at night or in closed rooms.

Scabies mites. They live in human skin, causing the development of the disease with symptoms in the form of severe itching (worsening at night) and skin rash.

“Scabies manifests itself as red, itchy spots on the skin, especially in the folds, between the fingers, on the wrists, elbows, armpits, and on the stomach,” the doctor explained.
Demodex mites. They also live on humans, but with normal immunity they do not pose a threat. If the immune system is weakened, such mites can cause the skin disease demodicosis, in which red, itchy rashes appear on the skin of the face, neck, chest, and back.

How to protect yourself from mites. Doctor Mariova shared her recommendation:

“It is necessary to regularly vacuum carpets, wash floors, wipe dust, wash bed linen, towels, and clothes in hot water. Ventilate the room to reduce humidity.”
Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote about how to properly dry laundry outside.
