Doctor Kuznetsov: Giving up alcohol is one of the top 4 methods for lowering cholesterol without medication

refusing alcohol
Cardiologist Alexander Kuznetsov named 4 “top” methods that allow you to lower cholesterol without the use of drugs.

Doctor Kuznetsov noted in a comment to Gazeta.Ru that the top 4 methods for lowering cholesterol without drugs include giving up alcohol.

“There are four main ways to lower cholesterol without medication: a special diet, reducing alcohol consumption, daily physical activity for at least 30 minutes, and weight loss if you are overweight,” the cardiologist said.
Kuznetsov stated that high cholesterol is dangerous because its excess accumulates in the vessels, contributing to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques that are layered on their walls. Over time, such plaques form arrays that narrow the lumen of the vessel and disrupt the normal flow of blood. The consequence of such a circulatory disorder is an insufficient flow of blood, nutrients and oxygen to the organs, including strategically important ones – the heart, brain, kidneys. At the same time, the risks of complications that threaten a person's life increase – ischemia, insufficiency, heart attack and stroke.

Kuznetsov added that people with high cholesterol are always recommended to have regular physical activity and a diet with limited consumption of sweets, sugary drinks and red meat, butter and other saturated fats, and alcohol. But sometimes lifestyle changes are not enough to normalize cholesterol – in this case, doctors resort to medications, especially if they observe a high risk of cardiovascular pathologies in patients.

Symptoms that indicate high cholesterol:

  • Chest pain after physical activity;
  • Rapid heartbeat (arrhythmia);
  • Pain and cramps in the legs, swelling of the extremities;
  • Shortness of breath, disturbances in breathing rhythm that occur even with minor exertion;
  • Systematic increase in blood pressure;
  • Formation of spider veins;
  • A pulse that is difficult to feel on the wrists,
  • Xanthelasma (fat lumps) on the eyelids;
  • Constantly cold or freezing extremities.
