Endocrinologist Veronika Kurova: the development of visceral obesity is one of the signals that a person will soon become a diabetic.

Doctor Kurova stated: visceral obesity often signals the imminent onset of diabetes. In particular, this type of obesity, in which fat is concentrated around the internal organs located in the abdominal cavity, often precedes type 2 diabetes, the endocrinologist clarified.

“With visceral obesity, fat accumulates around the liver, pancreas, and intestines. It is this that most often precedes type 2 diabetes,” Veronika Kurova shared on her Telegram channel.
The doctor noted that visceral fat is capable of producing hormone-like substances. When its amount increases, the concentration of these substances increases, and this can play the role of a provoking factor in the development of chronic inflammation and hyperglycemia (high sugar levels) – circumstances closely associated with the development of diabetes. Significant deposits of visceral fat turn the figure into an “apple”, forming a round, protruding belly.

How to understand that there is visceral obesity? You need to measure your waist. For women aged 18-45 of average height, the normal waist circumference should not exceed 88 centimeters, for men of the same age – 102 centimeters.

Doctor Kurova added that most often the cause of obesity is insufficient physical activity and poor nutrition, which contains too many “fast” carbohydrates, processed foods, sweet or alcoholic drinks.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote about what pathologies, in addition to diabetes, can arise due to the development of visceral obesity.
